I have great pleasure in inviting you to attend the forthcoming USICON at the original 'City of Joy' 'The Annual Conference of the USI holds the pride of place in our academic calendar and draws the sharpest minds in Urology every year. Our very energetic Secretary is toiling hard to work out a stimulating academic feast and I most cordially invite you to partake of it. I am m particularly keen that our young urologists attend, for they are the future of the Society.

We are going to have a very distinguished foreign faculty this year and look forward to their active participation. They can be assured of the warmest Indian hospitality.

Kolkata has an excellent venue for the Conference and the weather will be at its best in winter. Dr Shivaji Basu and Dr Amit Ghose, the Organising Secretaries, are well known to all of you. I have been interacting frequently with them and am assured that they will not leave any stone unturned to make you feel comfortable and welcome.

For those of us afflicted with wanderlust, Kolkata in winter is an ideal springboard for tourism. You can visit the jewels of the North-East or go up to Darjeeling or even sail to the Andaman after the conference. Bhutan is strongly recommended and Nepal is not too far away.

Compulsive shoppers will be more than happy with the fare at Kolkata and for the devout there are innumerable places of worship.

So do come along with your families and let us all make this an event to savour in the years to come.

It is my pleasure, as Secretary of the Urological Society of India, to invite you to KOLKATA, the cultural city of India, the commercial capital of Eastern India situated on the east bank of the Hooghly River, for the Annual Conference of the Urological Society of India (USICON-2011). Kolkata has much to offer for the delegates, with its distinctive architecture, fascinating history and stimulating modern-day culture. The Kolkata metropolitan area including suburbs has a population exceeding 15 million, making it the third most populous metropolitan area in India and one of the most populous urban area in the world.

The scientific program will feature many urological topics, from andrology to infertility, from oncology to stones, from pediatric urology to minimally invasive techniques, from urinary incontinence to transplantation, from robotics to reconstructive surgery. To present this ambitious program, we have selected the best faculty from our country and we are fortunate to count on the participation of international experts who will travel great distances to share their knowledge and experience. These global contributions are what will make the USICON-2011 one of the most important platforms for urological education. Once again, we are pleased to have received an impressive number of first-rate abstracts, and we remind those of you who have not submitted the abstracts, to do so before the deadline of 31-August-2010.

The rich scientific program with the scintillating social program will no doubt constitute a very fruitful conference at Kolkata. Over the scheduled 4 days, we will hear the latest research and updates in technology available in urology today, as well as present our own breakthroughs and innovations. It is very important that, as healthcare providers, we strive to learn from each other and continue to improve the urological care of our patients.

Kolkata, known for its warm hospitality will display India’s culinary exquisite to relish all tastes. Kolkata is well connected to all metropolitan cities and many international destinations by air. The USICON-2011 Organizing Committee will always be available to help you make this a very memorable conference. I am looking forward to welcoming you with your families to Kolkata.

Dear friends,

We are holding the next USICON in Kolkata after a gap of sixteen years. In this decade and a half, Urology has undergone a sea change and so have we in Kolkata. We believe that this Metropolis of the East has changed for the better. Those of you who have been here in the past, would be pleasantly surprised to find that despite the fact that the city has expanded in all directions, its communications have speeded up. And those who will be here on their first visit, would find that Kolkata is the friendliest of all metros.

The Conference would be held during the most pleasant winter month of January2011. The venue of Sonar Kolkata and the Science City are situated at the cross roads of major arterial way that cuts through the heart of the expanded city. There will be plenty of interest scientific and otherwise, so that the accompanying ladies and children will also be fully occupied. So, come, and come with your family. We assure you there will be no dearth of hospitality and smiles to welcome you.

You can also partake the cultural milieu of the rich winter varieties of the city-that we believe to be the cultural capital of India. Those who can spare the time, would also be able to visit the sights in and around the city or even visit exotic places like Darjeeling, the Sundarbans or that abode of peace Santiniketan.

So, do come to the USICON 2011, to imbibe science, renew acquaintance and also have pleasant memories to take back. We will make it memorable for you.
